Example Calculation

Example 1:

Specific Fuel Consumption: 0.50 lbs per HP (Gas)
Engine Horsepower: 200 HP
Fuel Specific Weight: 6.1 lbs per gal (Gas)

Calculation:

\[ FC = \frac{0.50 \times 200}{6.1} \approx 16.39 \text{ gallons/hour} \]

Example 2:

Specific Fuel Consumption: 0.40 lbs per HP (Diesel)
Engine Horsepower: 300 HP
Fuel Specific Weight: 7.2 lbs per gal (Diesel)

Calculation:

\[ FC = \frac{0.40 \times 300}{7.2} \approx 16.67 \text{ gallons/hour} \]
