Calculate Braden Score

Formula

The formula to calculate the Braden Score (BS) is:

\[ BS = \text{Sensory} + \text{Moisture} + \text{Activity} + \text{Mobility} + \text{Nutrition} + \text{Friction} \]

What is a Braden Score?

The Braden Scale for Predicting Pressure Sore Risk is a widely used tool in healthcare to assess a patient's risk of developing pressure ulcers. It consists of six categories: sensory perception, moisture, activity, mobility, nutrition, and friction & shear. Each category is scored based on the patient's condition, and the total score is used to determine the level of risk. Lower scores indicate a higher risk of developing pressure sores.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula to calculate the Braden Score (BS):

\[ BS = \text{Sensory} + \text{Moisture} + \text{Activity} + \text{Mobility} + \text{Nutrition} + \text{Friction} = 3 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 2 = 16 \]

The Braden Score (BS) is 16.
