What is Cost Per Watt?

Cost per watt is a metric used to describe the unit cost of one watt of power. It’s most often used in electronics or when looking at devices like solar panels. It’s used to compare the cost of the solar array by the power the solar panels generate.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Total Cost ($TC$) = $1000
Total Watts ($TW$) = 500 W

Using the formula:

\[ CPW = \frac{1000}{500} = 2 \]

The Cost Per Watt is $2 per watt.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Total Cost ($TC$) = $1500
Total Watts ($TW$) = 750 W

Using the formula:

\[ CPW = \frac{1500}{750} = 2 \]

The Cost Per Watt is $2 per watt.
