Formula

To calculate the Coverage Area (\(CA\)):

\[ CA = \left(\frac{F}{LA}\right) \times 100 \]

Where:

\(CA\) is the Coverage Area (%)
\(F\) is the total building footprint (ft²)
\(LA\) is the total lot area (ft²)

What is Coverage Area?

Coverage Area is the percentage of the total lot area that is covered by the building footprint. It is used in urban planning and construction to ensure that buildings do not exceed a certain proportion of the lot, allowing for adequate open space and preventing overcrowding.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Total Building Footprint (\(F\)) = 2000 ft²
Total Lot Area (\(LA\)) = 10000 ft²

Using the formula:

\[ CA = \left(\frac{2000}{10000}\right) \times 100 = 20\% \]

The coverage area is 20%.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Total Building Footprint (\(F\)) = 1500 ft²
Total Lot Area (\(LA\)) = 5000 ft²

Using the formula:

\[ CA = \left(\frac{1500}{5000}\right) \times 100 = 30\% \]

The coverage area is 30%.
