The formula to calculate the Dovetail Ratio (R) is:

\[ R = \frac{W_t}{W_p} \]

Where:

Dovetail Ratio: The ratio of the width of the tail to the width of the pin, which helps in determining the strength and aesthetics of the dovetail joint.
Width of Tail (W_t): The width of the trapezoidal shapes (tails) cut on one piece of wood.
Width of Pin (W_p): The width of the corresponding pins cut on another piece of wood.

Let's say the width of the tail is 2 inches and the width of the pin is 1 inch. Using the formula:

\[ R = \frac{2}{1} \]

We get:

\[ R = 2 \]

So, the dovetail ratio is 2.
