What is EBC?

The EBC (European Brewery Convention) color is a measure of the color of a beer or wort. It is calculated by multiplying the dilution factor by 25, then multiplying by the light absorbance at a 430 nanometers wavelength.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Dilution Factor (\(D\)) = 2
Light Absorbance at 430 nm (\(A_{430}\)) = 0.5

Using the formula:

\[ \text{EBC} = 25 \times 2 \times 0.5 = 25 \]

The EBC is 25.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Dilution Factor (\(D\)) = 1.5
Light Absorbance at 430 nm (\(A_{430}\)) = 0.8

Using the formula:

\[ \text{EBC} = 25 \times 1.5 \times 0.8 = 30 \]

The EBC is 30.
