Formula

The formula to calculate the Fixation Index (FI) is:

\[ FI = \frac{S}{T} \]

Where:

\( FI \) is the Fixation Index.
\( S \) is the variance in the frequency of the allele among different subpopulations.
\( T \) is the variance of the allelic state in the total population.

Fixation Index (FI): A measure of population differentiation due to genetic structure.
Variance in Subpopulations (S): The variance in the frequency of the allele among different subpopulations.
Total Population Variance (T): The variance of the allelic state in the total population.

Let's say the variance in subpopulations is 0.05 and the total population variance is 0.2. Using the formula:

\[ FI = \frac{0.05}{0.2} \]

We get:

\[ FI = 0.25 \]

So, the Fixation Index (\( FI \)) is 0.25.
