Where:

\(\text{Grout Coverage}\) is the amount of grout needed in gallons
Tile Area is the total area of the tiles in square feet (sq ft)
Tile Length is the length of a tile in inches
Tile Width is the width of a tile in inches
Tile Thickness is the thickness of a tile in inches
Grout Joint Width is the width of the grout joint in inches
231 is the number of cubic inches in a gallon

What is Grout Coverage?

Grout coverage refers to the amount of grout needed to fill the joints between tiles. It depends on factors such as tile size, joint width, and tile thickness[^1^][^2^].

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Tile Area = 100 sq ft
Tile Length = 12 inches
Tile Width = 12 inches
Tile Thickness = 0.25 inches
Grout Joint Width = 0.125 inches
Overage = 10%

Using the formula:

\[ \text{Grout Coverage} = \frac{100 \times 12 \times 12 \times 0.25 \times 0.125}{231} \approx 1.56 \text{ gallons} \]

With 10% overage, the grout coverage is approximately 1.72 gallons.
