The formula to calculate the Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is:

What is MTBF?

MTBF, short for mean time between failures, is a metric that describes the average time it takes to incur a failure on a piece of equipment. The equipment can be manufacturing equipment that produces goods or something like air-conditioning. It is a crucial metric in reliability engineering and maintenance planning.

Example Calculations

Example 1:

Total Operational Time (TOT): 1000 hours
Total Number of Failures (TF): 5

Using the formula:

\[ \text{MTBF} = \frac{1000}{5} = 200 \text{ hours} \]

Example 2:

Total Operational Time (TOT): 2000 hours
Total Number of Failures (TF): 10

Using the formula:

\[ \text{MTBF} = \frac{2000}{10} = 200 \text{ hours} \]
