What is Mass Balance?

Mass Balance is a principle in process engineering that states the mass entering a system (input) must equal the mass leaving the system (output) plus any accumulation of mass within the system. It is used to ensure that all mass is accounted for in processes involving material flow, such as in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, and manufacturing.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Mass Out (\(MO\)) = 200 kg
Mass Accumulated (\(MA\)) = 50 kg

Using the formula:

\[ MI = 200 + 50 = 250 \text{ kg} \]

The mass input is 250 kg.
