Calculate QB Rating

Formula

The formula to calculate the QB Rating is:

\[ \text{QB Rating} = \frac{(A + B + C + D)}{6} \times 100 \]

What is QB Rating?

QB Rating, also known as passer rating, is a measure of performance for quarterbacks playing American football. It’s a numeric value that started its official use back in 1973. Since then it has been the most recognized value for the performance of the quarterback in the National Football League. The QB rating is based on four factors: completion percentage, yards per attempt, number of touchdowns, and number of interceptions.

The max QB rating a passer can achieve is 158.3. This is based on how the formula works. No matter how many touchdowns a passer throws, they will never exceed the 158.3 passer rating, even with a 100% completion percentage.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formulas to calculate the QB Rating:

\[ A = ((\frac{25}{30} \times 100) - 30) \times 0.05 = 1.6667 \]

\[ B = ((\frac{300}{30} - 3) \times 0.25) = 2.25 \]

\[ C = (\frac{3}{30} \times 20) = 2 \]

\[ D = 2.375 - (\frac{1}{30} \times 25) = 1.5417 \]

\[ \text{QB Rating} = \frac{(1.6667 + 2.25 + 2 + 1.5417)}{6} \times 100 \approx 125.97 \]

The QB Rating is approximately 125.97.
