To calculate the Sail Area (\(SA\)):

\[ SA = \frac{H \times F}{2} \]

\(H\) is the mainsail hoist (ft)
\(F\) is the mainsail foot (ft)

What is Sail Area?

Sail Area is the total area of a sail, calculated by multiplying the mainsail hoist by the foot and then dividing by 2. This measurement is crucial for understanding the sail's capacity to catch wind and propel the sailboat.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Mainsail Hoist (\(H\)) = 20 ft
Mainsail Foot (\(F\)) = 10 ft

Using the formula:

\[ SA = \frac{20 \times 10}{2} = 100 \]

The Sail Area is 100 ft².

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:
