To calculate the Seed Rate (\(SER\)):

\[ SER = TPP \times TWG \times 100 \]

Where:

\(SER\) is the Seed Rate (kg/ha)
\(TPP\) is the target plant population (p/m²)
\(TWG\) is the thousand gram weight (g)

What is Seed Rate?

Seed rate is a measure of the amount of seed required to achieve a desired plant population density in a given area. It is typically expressed in kilograms per hectare (kg/ha). Calculating the correct seed rate is crucial for ensuring optimal crop yield and efficient use of resources.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Target Plant Population (\(TPP\)) = 200 p/m²
Thousand Gram Weight (\(TWG\)) = 50 g

Using the formula:

\[ SER = 200 \times 50 \times 100 = 1,000,000 \text{ kg/ha} \]

The seed rate is 1,000,000 kg/ha.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Target Plant Population (\(TPP\)) = 150 p/m²
Thousand Gram Weight (\(TWG\)) = 40 g

Using the formula:

\[ SER = 150 \times 40 \times 100 = 600,000 \text{ kg/ha} \]

The seed rate is 600,000 kg/ha.
