Where:

This waste factor is typically expressed as a percentage of the total roof area and accounts for the additional material needed to complete a roofing project.

Let's say the total roof area (TA) is 2000 square feet and the waste factor (WF) is 10%. Using the formula:

\[ WA = 2000 \times \left(\frac{10}{100}\right) \]

We get:

\[ WA = 200\, \text{square feet} \]

So, the shingle waste amount for a 2000 square feet roof with a 10% waste factor is 200 square feet.
