Calculate Sound Wavelength

Formula

To calculate the wavelength (λ):

\[ \lambda = \frac{v}{f} \]

Where:

What is a Sound Wavelength?

The wavelength of a sound wave is the distance between successive crests (or troughs) of the wave. It is inversely proportional to the frequency of the wave and directly proportional to the speed of sound in the medium. The wavelength determines the pitch of the sound we hear.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ \lambda = \frac{343}{210} \approx 1.6333 \text{ meters} \]

The wavelength is approximately 1.6333 meters.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ \lambda = \frac{1481}{500} = 2.962 \text{ meters} \]

The wavelength is 2.962 meters.
