What is a Wage Garnishment?

A wage garnishment is a legal procedure through which a portion of a person’s earnings is withheld by an employer for the payment of a debt. The garnishment continues until the entire debt is paid or arrangements are made to pay off the debt.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Garnishment Rate ($G$) = 15%
Gross Pay ($P$) = $3,000

Using the formula:

\[ WG = \frac{15 \times 3000}{100} = 450 \]

The wage garnishment amount is $450.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Garnishment Rate ($G$) = 20%
Gross Pay ($P$) = $4,500

Using the formula:

\[ WG = \frac{20 \times 4500}{100} = 900 \]

The wage garnishment amount is $900.
