Calculate Slugging Average

Formula

The formula to calculate the Slugging Average (Slugging Percentage) is:

\[ \text{Slugging Average} = \frac{\text{Singles} + (2 \times \text{Doubles}) + (3 \times \text{Triples}) + (4 \times \text{Home Runs})}{\text{At Bats}} \]

What is Slugging Average?

Slugging average, or slugging percentage, is a statistic in baseball that measures a batter's power. It is calculated by dividing the total number of bases a player has earned on hits by their total number of at bats. A higher slugging percentage indicates greater batting productivity.

Example Calculation

Consider an example where the player has:

Using the formula to calculate the Slugging Average:

\[ \text{Slugging Average} = \frac{50 + (2 \times 20) + (3 \times 5) + (4 \times 10)}{200} = \frac{50 + 40 + 15 + 40}{200} = \frac{145}{200} = 0.725 \]

This means that the slugging average for this example is 0.725.
