Definition

The Brinell Hardness Number is a number expressing the load applied in testing in kilograms divided by the spherical area of indentation produced in the specimen in square millimetres. Load is the instantaneous load applied perpendicular to the specimen cross-section. Diameter of Ball Indentor is the diameter of the indentor used for measuring the hardness. Diameter of Indentation is the diameter of the rim of permanent indentation obtained.
