To calculate the bulk density:

\[ BD = \frac{DSW}{SV} \]

Where:

\( BD \) is the bulk density (g/cm³)
\( DSW \) is the dry soil weight (g)
\( SV \) is the soil volume (cm³)

What is Bulk Density?

Bulk density is the total weight of dry soil per unit of volume. In other words, it is the density of soil without any water content. This measurement is important in fields like agriculture, geology, and environmental science to understand soil properties.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Dry Soil Weight \( DSW \) = 200 g
Soil Volume \( SV \) = 100 cm³

Step 1: Divide the dry soil weight by the soil volume:

\[ BD = \frac{200}{100} = 2 \]

So, the bulk density is 2 g/cm³.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Dry Soil Weight \( DSW \) = 150 g
Soil Volume \( SV \) = 75 cm³

Step 1: Divide the dry soil weight by the soil volume:

\[ BD = \frac{150}{75} = 2 \]

So, the bulk density is 2 g/cm³.
