Formula

To calculate the number of Megapixels (MP):

\[ MP = \frac{L \times W}{1,000,000} \]

Where:

\(MP\) is the number of Megapixels
\(L\) is the Length in pixels
\(W\) is the Width in pixels

Megapixel Definition

A megapixel is defined as a unit that is equal to 1 million pixels.

What is a pixel? A pixel is the smallest addressable element in a picture or screen. An addressable element means that the element can be affected or changed.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Length (\(L\)) = 4000 pixels
Width (\(W\)) = 3000 pixels

Using the formula:

\[ MP = \frac{4000 \times 3000}{1,000,000} = 12 \text{ MP} \]

The number of Megapixels is 12 MP.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Length (\(L\)) = 6000 pixels
Width (\(W\)) = 4000 pixels

Using the formula:

\[ MP = \frac{6000 \times 4000}{1,000,000} = 24 \text{ MP} \]

The number of Megapixels is 24 MP.
