What is Mortality Rate?

The mortality rate is a measure of the number of deaths in a particular population, scaled to the size of that population, per unit of time. It is typically expressed as the number of deaths per 1000 people per year.

Formula

The formula to calculate the mortality rate is:

\[ MOR = \frac{D}{P} \times 1000 \]

Where:

\(MOR\) is the Mortality Rate (deaths per 1000 people)
\(D\) is the total number of deaths
\(P\) is the total population at risk

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Total Number of Deaths (D) = 50
Total Population at Risk (P) = 10,000

Using the formula:

\[ MOR = \frac{50}{10000} \times 1000 = 5 \text{ deaths per 1000 people} \]

The mortality rate is 5 deaths per 1000 people.
