Pickleball Calories Burned Calculator

Calculate Calories Burned

Formula

The formula to calculate the calories burned while playing pickleball is:

\[ \text{Calories Burned} = \left( \frac{\text{Weight in pounds} \cdot \text{MET} \cdot 3.5}{200} \right) \cdot \text{Duration in minutes} \]

Where:

Example

Let's say you weigh 150 lbs and play pickleball for 60 minutes. The calories burned would be calculated as follows:

\[ \text{Calories Burned} = \left( \frac{150 \cdot 4.5 \cdot 3.5}{200} \right) \cdot 60 \approx 708.75 \text{ kcal} \]

So, you would burn approximately 708.75 kcal.

What is MET?

MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task. It is a unit that represents the amount of oxygen consumed while sitting at rest and is equal to 3.5 ml of oxygen per kg of body weight per minute. The MET value of an activity can be used to estimate the amount of energy expended during that activity. One MET is the rate of energy expenditure while at rest; a 4.5 MET value means pickleball burns 4.5 times the energy than when at rest.
