Total Frictional Torque on Truncated Conical Pivot Bearing Considering Uniform Wear Calculator

Calculate Frictional Torque

Formula

The formula to calculate the Total Torque is:

\[ T = \mu_{\text{friction}} \cdot W_t \cdot \frac{r_1 + r_2}{2} \]

Definition

Total Torque is the measure of the force that can cause an object to rotate about an axis. The Coefficient of Friction (μ) is the ratio defining the force that resists the motion of one body in relation to another body in contact with it. Load transmitted over bearing surface is the weight of load to be lifted. The outer radius of bearing surface is the distance from the center to the outer edge of the bearing. Inner Radius of Bearing Surface is the distance from center to the inner edge of bearing.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ T = 0.4 \cdot 24 \cdot \frac{8 + 6}{2} = 67.2 \text{ Nm} \]
