The formula to calculate the Final Size (FS) after shrinkage is:

\[ FS = OS - (OS \cdot \frac{SR}{100}) \]

Where:

Pottery Shrinkage: The reduction in size of a clay body as it dries and undergoes firing in a kiln. Shrinkage occurs due to the evaporation of water from the clay and the vitrification process during firing, which causes the clay particles to bond more tightly together. Final Size (FS): The size of the pottery piece after accounting for shrinkage.

Shrinkage Rate (SR): The percentage reduction in size due to shrinkage.

Let's say the original size (OS) is 10 inches and the shrinkage rate (SR) is 12%. Using the formula:

\[ FS = 10 - (10 \cdot \frac{12}{100}) \]

We get:

\[ FS = 8.80 \text{ inches} \]

So, the final size of the pottery piece is approximately 8.80 inches.
