Calculate Total Hydrostatic Force

Formula

The formula to calculate the Total Hydrostatic Force is:

\[ F_h = \gamma \cdot h_c \cdot A_s \]

Definition

Hydrostatic force is the force exerted by fluid at rest on an immersed or partially immersed object in the fluid or placed within it. It arises due to the pressure distribution by the fluid on the object. Specific weight of the fluid is a measure of the force exerted by gravity on a unit volume of fluid. Vertical distance from centroid refers to the distance from the centroid of the body which is submerged in the fluid to the free surface of the fluid. Surface area of the object can be referred to as the total two-dimensional space of the submerged object that is in contact with the fluid.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ F_h = 7357.5 \cdot 0.32 \cdot 0.3586 = 844.28784 \text{ N} \]
